Assembly Committee on Government Affairs adopts committee policies

The Assembly Committee on Government Affairs adopted its proposed committee policies by voice vote at the committee's first meeting of the 2025 legislative session in Carson City.

The policies, which the committee chair said are posted on the committee's meeting page, supplement the standing Assembly rules and add detail about daily meeting procedures. Chair Venisha Considine asked members to arrive on time and asked audience members to silence electronic devices. "Please silence your electronic devices," Chair Considine said during the opening housekeeping remarks.

Key provisions highlighted by the chair include an 8 a.m. start time for regular committee meetings unless otherwise posted; instructions for members of the public who wish to testify (sign in at the table by the door, provide a business card, speak with the microphone on and state name and affiliation for the record); and a requirement that exhibits be submitted to the committee manager the business day before a hearing so members and staff can review them in advance. The chair said the standing Assembly rules continue to govern committee business and that the new policies are intended to create "an atmosphere of respect, courtesy, and professionalism."
