Platte County public works: roads passable after storm; crews working to restore two lanes

Bob Heim, director of public works, told the Platte County Commission on Jan. 8 that county crews have plowed roads to allow emergency services and have begun a cleanup phase to restore two-lane travel where possible.
"As of Monday, we had all the streets and our roads in our jurisdiction that were plowed open to allow emergency services to get through," Heim said. He added crews were "going back out, yesterday. It's more clean up and started pushing back, to try to get roads opened up to 2 lanes." He warned motorists that "all of our roads do remain passable at this point, but I wanna emphasize that they are not clean in the sense that you can drive the speed limit on them." Heim also noted that some Missouri Department of Transportation routes remained unplowed and asked the public for patience.
Commissioners and staff expressed thanks for the crews' work. A commissioner present described the storm as among the toughest in recent years, noting heavy ice and drifting had complicated the response.
Heim asked drivers to give plows space and to exercise caution when encountering road crews. There were no formal actions associated with the briefing.
