Clay County approves SAN hardware upgrade with Data Edge Solutions

The Clay County Commission approved Resolution 20 25-28, authorizing agreements with Data Edge Solutions for SAN hardware and installation support after a presentation by Kevin Shaw, the county IT director.
Shaw told commissioners the county’s SAN was last replaced in 2006 and that projected 2025 pricing represented an unusually large increase compared with past upgrades. He said Clay County will shift from Dell hyperconverged infrastructure to HP hyperconverged systems to reduce cost while maintaining current storage capacity. Shaw said the HP systems use more flash and “might be a little faster,” and he did not expect users to notice a performance difference in everyday use. He also said there would be no expected downtime during the upgrade.
A figure mentioned during discussion was $536,922 for the procurement package. Commissioners voted to approve the resolution by roll call; the motion passed 5–0.
The resolution authorizes the agreements and the associated capital expenditure; the county administrator or department staff will execute contracts and manage implementation under the county’s procurement rules.
