Southside High School staff recapped recent academic outreach events during the February Cyclone Snapshot broadcast, including an IB informational night on Jan. 15, a college symposium on Jan. 30 and a school visit for current eighth graders the same day.
The host said "Miss Darby and 8 sensational students hosted an IB informational night for prospective students and parents to learn more about the IB program at Southside High School," and added that the IB program "is accessible to all students." The broadcast directed families to the school website under Academics for more information and encouraged parents to speak with their child's counselor.
The Jan. 30 college symposium featured representatives from St. John's University and Binghamton University, the host said, and was presented as an opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the college application process. On the same day, the high school welcomed current eighth graders for a daytime visit so they could meet staff, learn about elective offerings and become familiar with the building before ninth grade.
The host thanked Ms. McGinn and middle school staff for helping with the eighth‑grade visit and acknowledged the counseling center for facilitating both college guidance and transition activities.
The broadcast closed with a list of upcoming February events at Southside High School: the high school PTA meeting on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.; the Red and Blue review on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.; and the Red and Blue competitions on Feb. 28 and March 1 at 7 p.m.
No formal board actions, funding amounts or policy decisions were discussed in the broadcast segment.
