The Board of Trustees approved recommendations from the district’s scholarship committee to increase several Memorial Fund awards for the 2025–26 school year.
The largest change was a recommendation to award ten Stegnes scholarships at $3,000 each (previously $2,000). Business office staff presented historical balances and dividend income from the underlying trust to justify the one-year increase and recommended an annual fund-balance review to determine future award levels.
Other awards recommended included two $1,000 Fred Chaz scholarships (academic excellence), a $1,000 Curtis Memorial award targeted to nursing programs at Sheridan College or the University of Wyoming, and a $1,000 Skatula music scholarship.
Trustees asked how often prior awards were fully expended; business manager Finney said awards sometimes go unspent if recipients do not complete a semester. The board approved the recommendations and directed the scholarship committee and business office to administer awards and monitor the fund balance each year.
