Superintendent Stultz announces third pre-K class and website changes; highlights student-achievement goals

Superintendent Jeff Stultz told the Board of Trustees that Sheridan County School District No. 2 will add a third pre-kindergarten class at Coffeen Elementary for 4-year-olds eligible as of Sept. 15, pending hiring of a pre-K teacher.
Stultz also said district staff reorganized the website to make board minutes and school handbooks easier to find, and created a finance section with links to the approved district budget and executive summaries. "Thank you, Jessica Madden, for putting all the work and effort into making these necessary changes," he said.
On student achievement goals, Stultz reviewed board priorities for teaching and learning. He said district leaders continue to use Professional Learning Community practices and common formative assessments. The district set milestones including a target ACT composite of 22 (current district composite was 21.3) and a maintained graduation goal at or above 90 percent; the class of 2023 posted a 90.17 percent rate.
Stultz said common formative assessments will be used approximately every three weeks to check understanding and drive intervention or enrichment. He described the approach as "assessments for learning rather than assessments of learning," and said Pioneer legislators had asked to observe the approach in practice.
No formal board action was required on the report; trustees asked clarifying questions about the pre-K schedule and district communications.
