Nicollet County on Jan. 28 accepted the 2024 highway striping project as complete and authorized a final payment of $42,526.88 to SIR Lines-A-Lot.
Public works staff told the board the total final contract value was $169,152.84 and that the county had received the remaining paperwork needed to release final payment. "So final payment amount, for this contract will be $42,526.88," Public Works staff member Seth said during the meeting.
The request to accept the work and release final payment closed the file on a portion of striping done across the county's paved roads in 2024. Seth said the county typically puts the striping contract out annually; the amount of roadway restriped in any year varies depending on winter damage, pavement type and use. "We kinda review the mileage every year ... it also makes a difference as we end up with more concrete pavement in the county," Seth said, explaining that epoxy paint used on concrete can last five to eight years while latex paint used elsewhere typically lasts one to two years depending on traffic.
Board members moved and seconded the acceptance and payment; the motion passed on a voice vote. No member requested further detail on contractor performance at the meeting.
The public-works presentation noted a reduction in the number of striping contractors statewide compared with prior years and that the county had two bidders this year. Seth said consolidation in the industry has reduced the available pool of contractors.
The payment and final acceptance conclude the county's 2024 striping contract administration; staff did not present follow-up performance metrics or a written warranty at the meeting.
