Board recognizes long‑time bus driver George Brust and fifth‑grader Jack Teta’s Kid Governor finalist honor

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Salem School Board recognized two community members for contributions to the district.
The board presented a plaque to George Brust, a 13‑year bus driver for the Salem School District employed first with First Student and now Student Transportation of America. Board members praised Brust’s on‑the‑job safety record and a recent act of charity: after a local family suffered a house fire Brust assisted in raising funds and — through a group called Freedom Riders and the Salem Dairy Elks — personally presented a $1,000 donation to the family.
The board also honored Jack Teta, a fifth‑grade student from North Salem School and one of seven finalists in the 2025 New Hampshire Kid Governor program. Jack’s campaign highlighted a Buddy Mentoring program to pair students with disabilities with caring mentors; although he was not selected as Kid Governor, he will serve on the Kid Governor executive council and participate in the inauguration ceremony in Concord. The board screened Jack’s campaign video and invited him to the dais for congratulations.
