The Davis County School District board on Tuesday approved architect selections for three bond-funded construction projects and authorized a resolution to issue the next tranche of bonds for ongoing capital work.
Facilities staff presented three recommended architectural firms for projects funded by the 2022 bond program. The board approved hiring VCBO Architecture for the Kaysville Junior High gymnasium project, GSBS Architects for a six-classroom addition and enclosed activity space at Bayview Elementary, and MHTN for office reconfiguration, vestibule security improvements and rooftop HVAC work at Burton Elementary.
All three awards followed presentations from staff and a competitive selection process, and each contract was approved by voice vote.
Separately, district finance staff asked the board to approve a bond resolution to authorize issuance of up to $105 million in general-obligation bonds, representing the next allotment of the community-approved 2022 bond. Finance staff said the district previously issued $100 million in an earlier tranche and will proceed to issue the additional bonds in April. "When you're building rebuilding three high schools, two junior highs, and two elementary schools, it goes very quickly," a district finance representative said.
The board approved the bond resolution by voice vote and authorized staff to proceed with the April issuance. Administrators said the additional funds will continue to support the district—s planned construction and renovation projects tied to the 2022 bond program.
The board also praised using multiple architectural firms to provide different perspectives and design approaches across district projects.
