The Bedford School Board approved a set of policy updates and the 2025-26 school calendar at its meeting Monday, Jan. 27, while also discussing records-request transparency, school safety work and staff-retention and academic goals.
Board members voted to adopt second reads and procedures for a series of district policies and accepted the draft calendar for the coming school year. The board also approved draft minutes from its Jan. 13–14 sessions and accepted the manifest for Jan. 28. At the end of the public meeting the board voted to go into nonpublic session.
The approvals came during a packet of second reads and routine business the board grouped at the start of the agenda. Business Administrator Lisa Ambrosio told the board the district charges 25 cents per page for paper copies but that most records are provided electronically. The board discussed whether to post a public log of records requests on the district website, and asked staff to review how other districts publish such logs and return with a proposal.
On the calendar, the board confirmed Bedford builds five emergency days into its schedule and would work with the state if an extraordinary number of days were lost to weather; the superintendent said the State Board of Education can grant exceptions or waivers in unusual years. The board approved the proposed calendar after hearing that the Parent-Teacher Group, district administration and the Bedford Education Association had reviewed it.
Superintendent Mike Fournier and Assistant Superintendent Tom Laliberte walked the board through the district’s goals update, reporting substantial progress on data use and professional learning communities, ongoing work on motion-sensor activation for existing cameras as a safety improvement, and a need for more targeted professional development for paraprofessionals and staff-recognition systems.
Actions taken at the meeting were made by motion and approved by voice votes recorded as “Aye” during roll call. The board agreed to return for a second reads session on policies that were introduced as first reads at this meeting.
The board held a brief conversation about next steps for homework-policy review; the curriculum committee will bring midyear feedback to the board’s February curriculum meeting and more comprehensive survey results will follow at the end of the year.
Minutes and procurement documents approved at the meeting will be posted with the packet materials on the district website once clerical updates are completed.
