Kent County commissioners approve courthouse security MOU, school vehicle purchase and other items; two zoning hearings set for March decision

Commissioners approved a $1,000 contingency grant to support the county’s Vietnam Veterans Day celebration on March 29, 2025, and unanimously approved Resolution 2025-01 supporting the Comprehensive Upper Chesapeake Bay Sediment Management Plan (related to Conowingo Dam dredging and sediment concerns).
On personnel matters, the board approved a conditional offer of employment to fill the vacant code enforcement position following a competitive hiring panel; commissioners said the appointment was an internal promotion and the recommended candidate was unanimously supported by the interview panel.
On hearings and scheduling, the board opened and closed a public hearing on Code Home Rule Bill 10-2024 (which would form a construction trades board to replace the Board of Electrical Examiners) with no testimony; the record for that hearing was left open through the close of business Friday, Feb. 7, 2025. The board said legislative decisions on both zoning items (including the fox-hunting kennel text amendment heard earlier the same night) are scheduled for the March 4, 2025 legislative session.
