Senate introduces S.40–S.47 and two House bills; adopts weekend-adjournment resolution
Summary

The Senate adopted JRS 10 relating to weekend adjournment. The resolution, read into the record, says, “Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives that when the 2 houses adjourn on Friday, 02/07/2025, it be to meet again no later than Tuesday, 02/11/2025.” The presiding officer put the question to the Senate by voice vote; the chair announced, “The ayes have it, and you have adopted the resolution.”
Senators then introduced a series of Senate bills and read them for the first time. The bills and committee referrals announced in the record were:
- S.40, an act relating to authorizing draw downs of dams during emergency flood events — referred to the Committee on Natural Resources and Energy. - S.41, an act relating to authorizing the use of state waters by hydroelectric generation facilities — referred to the Committee on Natural Resources and Energy. - S.42, an act relating to implementing the restaurant meals program — referred to the Committee on Health and Welfare. - S.43, an act relating to reference-based pricing and cost containment in the State Employees Health Plan — referred to the Committee on Government Operations. - S.44, an act relating to requiring legislative approval prior to entering into certain immigration agreements — referred to the Committee on Government Operations. - S.45, an act relating to protection from nuisance suits for agricultural activities — referred to the Committee on Judiciary. - S.46, an act relating to the taxation of vehicles used for forestry operations — referred to the Committee on Transportation. - S.47, an act relating to cancellation of motor vehicle purchases — referred to the Committee on Transportation.
The Senate also took first readings of two House-passed bills:
- H.27, an act relating to the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission — referred to the Committee on Judiciary (passed the House Jan. 30). - H.35, an act relating to unmerging the individual and small group health insurance markets — referred to the Committee on Finance (passed the House Jan. 30).
Most introductions in this session were limited to first readings and committee referrals; no committee debates or roll-call votes on those measures were recorded in the transcript. Later in the session the Senate approved a motion that it stand adjourned until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025; the motion to adjourn was moved by the senator from Chittenden Southeast and adopted by voice vote.
