Board hears several procurement and facilities updates: textbook proposals, landscaping quotes, summer construction rebid and gym-floor bids

Textbooks: Staff proposed adopting new titles for AP music, essentials of marketing, an updated honors biology edition, and a four‑level French text (French 1–4) for the 2025–26 school year. Quantities shown in the packet were described as estimates and the district said final purchases would be made after sectioning numbers are available in spring; materials will be on display for 30 days and staff will return with a formal approval request at the March regular board meeting.
Landscaping quotes: The district presented quotes from Dynasty Landscaping ($1,800 per month April–November; $14,400 total) and TruGreen ($17,440.68) for weed control and grass cutting on the east side of the building. Last year the board rejected all bids and later awarded contracts to TruGreen and Dynasty; staff recommended moving ahead with the two vendors again, noting no increases from the prior year and satisfaction with services. Board members clarified the current proposals are quotes rather than results of a formal bid process.
Summer construction bid update: Allied Facility Partners released summer renovation bids (third-floor bathrooms, ceiling/lighting replacement and construction of the transition apartment). The district received a limited number of bids and noted not all trades returned proposals; Allied will rebid portions that lacked sufficient bids and hold a second opening on Feb. 14. District staff said the timetable remains targeted for board approval in March and for work to occur over the summer to meet the start-of-year goal.
Bishop Jim gym floor bids: On Jan. 31 the district received three bids for refinishing the Bishop Jim gym floor. The lowest bid was from All American Hardwood Flooring (Darien) at $65,556.25, which included refinishing and alternates for the three‑point arc and IHSA logos. The next closest bid exceeded $90,000. District staff said they are checking references and raised concerns about whether All American Hardwood has comparable projects with similar underlayment and specifications; staff said they expect to provide a recommendation at the February board meeting.
No formal approvals were taken on these items during the meeting; staff outlined next steps and planned return dates for formal board action.
