County authorized to negotiate with state on Wake Boat Landing after Mill Creek update

Middlesex County supervisors on Feb. 4 authorized County Administrator Matt Walker to begin negotiations with the state about maintenance and possible implementation of the Mill Creek (Wake Boat Landing) design after the county’s Working Waterfronts grant was put on hold.
County staff said the engineered design prepared by VHB and the PDC provides a feasible maintenance plan and that the county will ask the state agency that manages the site to assume maintenance of the public boat ramp or otherwise implement the design. Supervisors directed the administrator to meet with the state and report back on options, including state-led implementation, follow-up Working Waterfronts grant applications, or, if necessary, county ownership and operation of the site.
Officials said a state-led approach could be compatible with later Working Waterfronts improvement grants and that pursuing state acceptance of the design would be a faster near-term step while the grant process is paused. Supervisors voted unanimously to authorize Walker to open agency talks and pursue other follow-up options.
