At its Feb. 4 meeting the Boynton Beach City Commission approved a number of consent and noncontroversial items, including contract awards, advisory-board nominations and a proposed settlement.
Key votes at a glance: - Galaxy Park field lighting: The commission approved Resolution R25-033 to award REC25-013B to Tabco Electrical Contractors Corp. for installation of sports field lighting at Galaxy Park. The project contract amount is $515,892.88 with a 10% contingency, bringing the total allocation to $565,482.17. Staff said lighting will allow evening programming and police athletic outreach.
- Interstate Renewable Energy Council commitment: The commission approved a letter of commitment (Resolution R25-030) to join an interstate council to help the city plan electric-vehicle infrastructure; staff said participation has no cost and is similar to the city’s SolSmart membership for solar.
- Advisory-board appointments: Commissioners nominated and confirmed Shannon Schmitz to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and Barry Doctor to the Recreation & Parks Board (alternate seat); nominations passed unanimously.
- Worker-compensation settlement: The commission approved Resolution R25-037 to settle two workers’ compensation claims for a total of $200,000 related to on-the-job injuries (one claim included subsequent injury by a drunk driver); staff said the employee had resigned and the settlement resolves both claims.
- Other consent approvals: Commissioners approved the remainder of the consent agenda, including purchases over $100,000 and a variety of administrative items. All consent measures passed unanimously.
The commission also issued a proclamation honoring the Boca Raton Bowl’s use of Isel Hester Junior Field as a practice site and heard a range of public comments on neighborhood issues, the Andrews House, events and city services.
