Town communications staff told committee chairs on Feb. 4 that the office needs more lead time to market committee events effectively and asked for earlier notice and coordinated information to maximize outreach on social media and in the town newsletter.
Multiple committee chairs acknowledged challenges delivering event details on short timelines and said late notices limit marketing reach. Staff asked committees to provide events and logistics earlier — ideally more than two weeks' notice — so marketing materials and social-media promotion can be prepared.
Separately, Cultural Affairs and the Economic Development Committee reported plans to revive a longtime Main Street Live performance series. Committee members said the event was last held in 2005, that local bands and merchants are interested, and that a subcommittee will develop sponsorship and logistics. Town staff and committee chairs agreed the event should be cleared with the council; one staff adviser recommended a brief public comment at an upcoming council meeting to formally request the council’s blessing before moving forward with large-scale promotion.
Staff cautioned that teleconferencing for entire committee meetings has staffing and cost implications — IT or an additional staff member is needed to manage remote participants — and recommended phasing any telephonic/Zoom participation plan to avoid overwhelming liaisons.
