Blasting advisory board outlines state legislative developments, schedules Feb. 27 community workshop

At the Feb. 4 meeting, the Blasting Advisory Board reported two new bills at the Florida Legislature addressing blasting-related relief and urged residents to attend a municipal workshop on Feb. 27.
Board members said House Bill 303 (Rep. Tom Fabricio) and Senate Bill 486 (Sen. Brian Avila) had been introduced and that the bills relate to statutory sections the board has tracked. The board asked the town and residents to involve the local legislative delegation and neighboring municipalities; members said they had been coordinating with municipal officials from Doral, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens and Miramar.
The town will host a community municipal workshop on Feb. 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at town hall to brief residents, municipal leaders and county representatives on blasting issues and proposed legislation. Board members said county staff and a county emergency-resources representative were expected to attend. The board also plans outreach including a podcast and continued lobbying with state and regional partners.
Speakers cautioned that legal analyses remain pending with town legal staff and emphasized community involvement in the Feb. 27 workshop. The advisory board urged residents to attend and to raise local blasting concerns during the event.
