City staff: Pastor Linton barbershop project on schedule for spring bids; construction expected this year

City staff updated the Tuscaloosa properties committee on the Pastor Linton barbershop property, saying the project is progressing on schedule and that staff expects to put the project out for bid in May.
Tim (city staff) said the city received a 60 percent design package from CCR Architecture and has a two-week review period; staff expects the next design package in March and final construction documents in April. "Assuming we're under funds of value, we can award that bid in June, and I would expect that we would be completed with this part before the end of the year," Tim said.
Staff also said the city executed a contract with Caleb O'Connor to design and create a mural for the site. The Linton family reviewed the mural proposal and requested to be included when the project's 3-D model is available. Staff said the project will be bid as a park rather than a vertical building; demolition of the prior structure has already occurred.
No formal action or vote was taken on the Linton project during the committee update; staff said they will proceed through the design-review, bidding and contracting process and return with procurement results.
