The Tuscaloosa City Council ordered demolition of two structures at the meeting after code enforcement presented findings that each property had multiple housing code violations.
City staff (Mr. Williams) told the council the structure at 50430 Third Avenue was condemned on Sept. 25, 2024, and had 48 housing code violations; the condemnation notice covered the house and all accessory buildings. The staff report says the owner was contacted and is aware that if the city demolishes the building the cost will be charged back to the owner; the property was described as a voluntary condemnation and the owner may not be present.
Council then ordered demolition of a second property at 2217 Foster's Ferry Road. Mr. Williams said that property had also been condemned on Sept. 25, 2024, and has 48 housing code violations; the owner had been contacted and the condemnation is voluntary. No members of the public spoke for or against either demolition at the public hearing for those items.
Both demolition orders were put to vote and recorded in the meeting as adopted by the council. The transcript records the council voting in the affirmative on both orders; no roll‑call with named votes for every member is recorded in the transcript.
