Council awards $91,150 contract for fire station bay doors after receiving three bids

City staff recommended and the council adopted a resolution awarding a contract to California Overhead Door for $91,150 to replace apparatus bay doors at the Greenfield Fire Department.

Public Works staff reported that an initial September 2024 request for proposals produced no bids. After the council authorized purchasing on the open market, staff solicited bids directly and received three proposals from Overhead Door, American Door and Gates, and California Overhead Door. California Overhead Door submitted the apparent low bid at $91,150; staff said prior budget transfers covered the expense and there was no additional budget impact at the time of award.

Following staff presentation, a council member moved to adopt the proposed resolution and a second was given. The council took a voice vote; the mayor called for those in favor to say “aye” and the motion passed. Staff noted that when the council first tried the formal RFP route they received no responses and that direct solicitation produced competitive bids though some vendors raised prices when asked to bid after the initial no-bid result.

The contract award was approved at the meeting; staff will coordinate contract execution and project scheduling with the fire department and vendor.
