Clark Hittenbrock asked the Dubois County commissioners for permission to replace worn furniture in the clerk’s office and to advertise the purchase using the clerk’s perpetuation fund. He requested a not-to-exceed amount of $25,000 to cover a three-room layout, cabinetry and locally made pieces; he said the clerk’s perpetuation fund covers the purchase and that the council must approve the expenditure once advertised.
County commissioners voted to allow the clerk’s office to proceed with replacement planning and to advertise the expenditure. Commissioners discussed disposal or transfer of older furniture to other county offices; staff will inventory surplus items and follow county disposal procedures.
Separately, staff reported that a book scanner used by the recorder’s office and for county commissioners’ books has completed its scanning work and the resulting files have been converted to searchable OCR versions. The county decided to declare the large book scanner surplus and seek buyers; staff discussed a floor price of about $2,000 and noted potential licensing or software-transfer costs a buyer would face. Commissioners approved declaring the scanner surplus and directed staff to follow applicable county sale rules.
County staff said the OCR-searchable PDFs will be uploaded to the county website after the records office coordinates with the website manager on formatting and organization.
