County staff said the smaller pickup could not use Sourcewell state pricing and that ordering delays could push a 2025 order into a 2026 production slot, so staff gathered multiple quotes and recommended the low bidder. "We've been recommended to go with the low bidder of a few more Chevrolet in the amount of $47,005.26," a presenter said.
Officials discussed reallocating existing trucks: one older truck will be kept in the fleet and used as a spray truck with a gas engine more suitable for low-speed spraying, and the traded-in vehicle will be used on a trailer. Commissioners and staff discussed bed covers, fuel tanks for on-board fueling, crew cab configurations, and the decision to select a gas rather than diesel pickup. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
Staff said the purchase is intended to ensure needed vehicles arrive sooner and to fit highway work needs; the county will proceed with ordering the vehicle and arranging trade-ins or reassignment of older trucks.
