Committee approves $28,000 budget increase for West Second Street redevelopment planning

City Administrator Steve Varg told the committee that consultants working on the West Second Street corridor plan identified roughly $17,000 in additional expected 2025 expenses. Varg said the corridor work also requires appraisals for the Weinbrenner building and the police station to inform potential redevelopment and potential relocation of the police station. He reported appraisal estimates of $7,500 for the Weinbrenner building and $3,500 for the police station, for a combined appraisal cost of about $11,000.
Varg asked the committee to recommend council approval of a budget resolution to increase the 2025 economic development budget in fund 205 by $28,000 to cover the consultant shortfall and the two appraisals. He said the money already exists in the fund but needs to be aligned with 2025 spending.
A motion to approve the budget resolution was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor by voice and the chair declared the motion passed.
Varg framed the appraisal work and the consultant hours as steps toward redevelopment options for the corridor, including the possible relocation of the police station if redevelopment proceeds. Committee members did not request further amendments at the meeting.
