County funds pier repairs; county master plan and drainage study for St. Augustine Beach discussed

Commissioner Anne Taylor, who represents District 5 on the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, briefed the St. Augustine Beach City Commission on county projects that affect the city.
Taylor said the county approved up to $3,000,000 for repairs to the fishing pier’s pylons; the pier repair project was out for bid and bids were scheduled to close on Feb. 12, 2025. She said the county remains engaged with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on permitting and that permitting is likely to be the lengthiest remaining step before construction can begin.
Taylor also said the county budget included $195,000 in FY25 for a pier master plan. She described the planned scope as public engagement, evaluation of active and passive recreation, pedestrian and neighborhood connections, parking maximization, possible pavilion or gift‑shop structures, resilient infrastructure, and a review of the waterfront park area (including the spray pad, bait shop and parking).
Taylor said the county funded a drainage study for Ron Parker Park in the FY25 budget; the study will analyze parking‑lot drainage and produce constructible solutions.
Commissioners and staff asked questions about bid timing and permitting requirements. The briefing was informational; no formal city action was taken at the Feb. 3 meeting on these county projects.
