Board approves $121,914 purchase of MyView Literacy mentor texts paid from Title I funds

The Conroe County Board of Education voted 5-0 on Feb. 3, 2025, to approve the purchase of MyView Literacy Mentor Textbooks from Savas Learning Company LLC for $121,914.40, to be paid from Title I funds.

Board member Tracy White moved approval of the purchase as listed in enclosure 99; an unnamed board member seconded the motion. The board recorded the vote as unanimous in favor.

School staff explained the purchase is tied to teacher training required under what was described during the meeting as House Bill 3035, called in the meeting the Third Grade Success Act. Amanda (staff member) said the district will provide professional learning for teachers and that next year the English language arts focus will be on writing; the MyView bundles will serve as companion trade-style books for teachers to use after they complete that training. Dr. Williams (staff member) and another staff speaker added that the purchase supports classroom resources for writing instruction.

During discussion a board member asked how many years remain on the district—ontract for the textbook program; a staff reply indicated "three or four" years remain after the current year, described in the meeting as an approximate figure.

The purchase was identified in the meeting by vendor and quote number: Savas Learning Company LLC, quote QDash134014, enclosure 99. Meeting remarks stated the acquisition will be paid from Title I funds.

The board completed the vote without further amendment. The decision follows the district's stated intent to align resources and teacher professional learning with state reading and writing requirements discussed at the meeting.
