Milton approves conflict waiver and joins regional emergency medical oversight committee

Milton City Council approved two related items on Feb. 3: (1) a waiver of conflict permitting Gerard & Davis LLP to represent both Milton and Alpharetta on matters related to the North Fulton Emergency Medical Response Oversight Committee bylaws, and (2) formal adoption of the MROC bylaws to establish a regional oversight committee for emergency medical services with Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek and Sandy Springs.
City Attorney Jeff Strickland presented the conflict waiver, saying these waivers come before council when the same law firm will perform work for multiple cities on a joint matter. "This conflict waiver relates to our work on that project," Strickland said.
Fire Chief Gabe (recorded in the minutes as "Gabe and Moussa") summarized the proposed MROC bylaws, saying the committee creates a structure for oversight of the AMR service agreement and establishes city managers as the board of directors with an executive committee made up of the fire chiefs and subcommittees to review operational data and contractual compliance. "This resolution will establish that MROC but also adopt the bylaws that will give us, in the sense, a structure for oversight of the contract," the chief said.
Councilor Jan Jacobus moved to approve the conflict waiver (agenda item 25‑035); Councilor Doug Haney seconded. The motion passed unanimously. A separate motion to approve creation of the MROC and adopt the bylaws (agenda item 25‑036) was moved by Councilor Cranmer and seconded by Councilor Jacobus; that motion also passed unanimously.
