The Homewood School District 153 Board of Education on Feb. 3 approved a resolution to issue general-obligation life-safety bonds and separately awarded a low bid for window replacement at Willow School.
Chief School Business Official Dr. Trimberger told the board the district would issue bonds to fund —altering and reconstructing school buildings and purchasing and installing equipment— for fire prevention, safety, energy conservation and security. At one point Dr. Trimberger described the sale as $2,790,000 with a 3.85% interest rate; the resolution presented to the board described —approximately $2,820,000— in general-obligation bonds, series 2025. Dr. Trimberger said the sale would incur about $133,753 in interest and about $26,500 in issuance costs.
In a related capital action, the board awarded the Willow School window-replacement contract to Crowell Window Company of Oak Lawn, Illinois. The low bid was $435,229; the contract includes a $36,000 allowance that, if unused, will be deducted by change order. The district applied for and was awarded a $50,000 school-maintenance grant from the Illinois State Board of Education to help fund the window project.
Board members who moved and seconded the motions asked no substantive amendments to either action. The board—s roll call approved both the bond resolution and the Willow window contract. The bond proceeds were described as necessary to complete planned work at Willow this summer, including window replacement and other life-safety improvements.
Documented financial details presented at the meeting include the interest rate (3.85%), estimated interest cost ($133,753) and issuance cost ($26,500) as described by the chief school business official; the resolution text lists the bond principal approximately as $2,820,000. The board packet referenced mandatory pre-bid procedures for the window work, three submitted bids, and a mandatory pre-bid meeting attended by four companies.
The board did not attach additional conditions to the Willow award beyond standard contract requirements; the district expects to reconcile any unused allowance with a deductive change order at project completion.
Votes on both items were recorded by roll call and the motions carried.
The board also received a brief update that the Willow window work is part of a broader summer construction plan that includes roofing work and other maintenance at district buildings.
