Council to revisit proposed trash service changes after public feedback

Several residents used the citizens’ appearance period to urge the council to withdraw or reconsider proposed changes to the city’s trash collection schedule and container rules. Councilmember Adam Russell said the council had heard community concerns and asked the city manager to return the trash service discussion on a February agenda for additional consideration. Russell told the speakers, “We have heard your voices…we're gonna look at it again,” and cautioned that council could not engage in a substantive dialogue during the public comment period because the item was not on that night’s agenda.
Speakers raising issues included Lonnie Freeman—who cited concerns that high‑volume households and special needs families would be disproportionately affected and raised separate public safety/health questions—and Philip Sanders and Dave O’Connor, who described likely practical problems with fitting multiple full trash bags into a 95‑gallon container, holidays and inclement weather leading to extended intervals between pickups, and increased pest pressure.
No formal directive was adopted beyond placing the item on a future agenda for further public input and council deliberation.
