Students and 4-H speakers urge council to support Western York County Agricultural Arena

Students described how ag classes, FFA and 4-H have provided leadership, career skills and opportunities—one speaker said her ag business class won a $5,000 grant—and asked council to back the arena concept for its educational benefits. Speakers included FFA and 4-H members from several York County schools; Alan (AJ) Dover identified himself as president of the York County 4-H Teen Council and described multi-year involvement in swine and horse projects. Several speakers said the arena steering committee plans to make a formal request for county support at the May budget workshop.
Those who spoke said a local arena would reduce travel time to shows, allow more students to participate in fiber-sheep and equine events, and provide a venue for clinicians and judges to train youth. Students cited agriculture’s statewide economic role and said the arena would support career pathways into veterinary and agricultural fields.
Ending: Speakers left together after the forum to attend an agricultural event; council members heard the comments and noted the steering committee will submit a formal request in May.
