Monroe County Council approves convention-center property transfers and several budget appropriations

Monroe County Council members unanimously approved an ordinance transferring properties associated with the Convention Center Building Corporation and voted to approve a package of budget changes and appropriations at their Jan. 28 meeting.

The council passed Ordinance 2025-2 to authorize the county to accept real property from the Convention Center Building Corporation and to transfer selected parcels to the City of Bloomington’s Capital Improvement Board as part of a redevelopment and financing plan. Public comment from a group identifying itself as “taxpayer advocacy petitioners of Monroe County” called the project a costly “mini stadium” and urged the council to halt the ordinance; the council voted to approve the ordinance on a recorded roll call that was announced as unanimous.
