Council approves special-event liquor permit, recommends amendment for restaurant ballroom

The Columbus City Council on Feb. 3 approved a special designated liquor license for an American Heart Association fundraiser and recommended approval of a liquor-license amendment to add a ballroom area for SKL LLC doing business as Maria’s Authentic Mexican Cuisine Riverside Lounge.
Jamie Scott, event chair for the American Heart Association fundraiser and a Columbus resident, told the council the event will be held at Prime 10 Steakhouse and Venue at 4174 63rd Avenue from 5 p.m. to 10:59 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2025. Scott said the later end time is likely for cleanup rather than extended service; she said she did not submit the application herself.
The council voted to approve the special designated license for the fundraiser.
On a separate application, Steven Long, a representative of SKL LLC, said the company sought to add the ballroom area at 265 33rd Avenue to its existing liquor license. Council members clarified that the courtyard and other existing areas are already licensed and amended the motion to recommend approval to the city’s liquor commission. The council’s action was a recommendation; the liquor commission will grant the formal license.
Both motions carried with the council indicating approval by voice vote. No opposition was recorded during council consideration.
The applications are on file with the city clerk; the council’s recommendation for SKL LLC will be forwarded to the liquor commission for final approval.
