Council members used the Feb. 3 meeting to highlight several upcoming public meetings, community events and recognitions.
Council member Hatfield promoted a downtown business meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the council chambers and encouraged local businesses to attend. Hatfield and other council members urged residents to attend the Highway 41/110 Project public meeting from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Chaska Community Center (Brick City banquet room) to review construction phasing and detours for a major thoroughfare expected to affect traffic next summer. Council members described the Feb. 19 meeting as an opportunity to learn detour plans and phasing.
Council members also noted the Parks & Recreation Commission is hosting a "Sweetheart Dance" for children on Feb. 21 at the Chaska Event Center (6 to 7:30 p.m.; $5 per child). Several council members praised the recent ice-fishing tournament hosted by the Fire Relief Association and thanked organizers and sponsors.
Staff and council recognized the Highway 41 project’s awards: the project received transportation honors from the City Engineers Association of Minnesota and additional statewide engineering awards; council members said the project won multiple awards in competition with other statewide projects. The council also noted that the police and fire departments published their monthly call statistics on social media and encouraged residents to review those posts for details on emergency responses.
Administrative calendar items announced included a joint work session with the planning commission at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24 to discuss revisions to the zoning ordinance, a March 3 meeting expected to include a recommendation for an architect for the municipal service building and a planned tour of the public safety center as staff finalizes the strategic planning implementation section.
These announcements were delivered as informational items; no formal council action on these topics was recorded in the meeting transcript.
