Business Committee introduces data-security standard, CTA memorial and six de-licensing measures

The Idaho House Business Committee introduced multiple measures that would affect insurers, small businesses and occupational licensing.

Representative Jordan Redmond told the committee he was introducing RS 31816 to create an Idaho-specific standard for insurance-related data security. He said the proposal would require breach reporting and protections for personal information and would apply to insurance companies and agencies with more than 50 employees so as "not [to be] overburdening on the small business." Representative Jordan Redmond, District 3 (Kootenai County), asked the committee to introduce the RS; Representative Crane moved and the committee approved the motion by voice vote.

Redmond also introduced RS 31964, a joint memorial asking the U.S. Congress to repeal the Corporate Transparency Act. He told the committee the memorial was prompted by compliance confusion and possible fines that would burden small businesses. He said he hopes the federal delegation will pursue repeal and that he had been contacted by the state controller about compliance issues.…
