LAS VEGAS — The City of Las Vegas recommending committee on Feb. 3 debated Bill 2024-41, an ordinance proposed by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman to add chapter 2.67 to Title 2 of the Las Vegas Municipal Code to establish a city animal advisory committee. The committee did not recommend the bill; it will be considered by the City Council at its Feb. 19, 2025 meeting.
Supporters of the advisory committee filled the public-comment period, asking the committee to create a standing body to advise council members and coordinate local responses to what they described as an ongoing animal-welfare crisis. "I'm here to support ... the creation of the animal advisory board," said Bryce Henderson, president of No Kale Las Vegas, during public comment. Patricia Reed of Hearts Alive Village said the committee would give "animals a voice." Gina Grayson of Nevada Voters for Animals said the panel could help update and harmonize ordinances across jurisdictions.
