Highway department outlines plan to widen dangerous curve on 775 South at Kernwood Drive

Tommy Humber of the Delaware County Highway Department briefed the commissioners on a multi-phase project to improve sight lines and widen a curve at the Kernwood Drive intersection on 775 South.
Humber said crews removed about 20 trees in an initial phase to improve visibility for semi drivers, and they have been coordinating with AT&T and Comcast to relocate utility boxes. Plans for a second phase call for additional tree removal near the Lon Wright property, widening of the corner, installation of a longer culvert (Humber said he expects to use a 46-foot culvert) and roadway grading to create clearer sight lines. "The problem is the curve," Humber said, describing vehicles swinging wide; he added: "If we put a stop in there, that's gonna take care of that. Everybody's gonna see everybody at the stop." He urged commissioners to consider a stop sign at the southern approach to reduce risky turning movements.
Commissioners asked that sheriff's office and local township officials review the stop-sign proposal and provide feedback. A commissioner requested Keystone and county staff review traffic-control and enforcement implications before finalizing design.
Humber said he has already begun work on both north- and south-side adjustments, plans to install the longer culvert and will continue coordination with utilities; he expected further updates and formal cost figures at a subsequent meeting.
