Board approves Bonney Eagle High School course selection guide and new course proposals

The RSU 06/MSAD 06 Board of Directors voted 9-0 to approve the Bonney Eagle High School Course Selection Guide, following a curriculum committee report that outlined new and revised courses and related changes to the guide.

Curriculum committee members described several new or revised offerings proposed for the high school: a 9th-grade math lab to support students needing extra hands-on help; introduction to statistics and a separate statistical inference course (splitting a previous full-year course into two half-credit courses); a financial algebra course integrating algebraic and graphical methods with financial concepts; and a range of electives including Art Appreciation (replacing Art I Survey), Electricity and Electronics (a hands-on circuits course), Tech in Action (updated web and app design content), Media Art II/Graphic Design (portfolio-based), and a new social-studies elective, History and Popular Music, for 11th–12th graders.

Committee members said the course-selection guide has moved to a fully digital format this year and that the alternative-education section will be added in April because the alternative program’s course-selection process differs from the general high-school model. The committee also previewed a full professional-development day for staff on March 14 focused on equitable education topics, including sessions on Wabanaki Nation history, poverty-responsive practices, multilingual learners, disability inclusion and other teacher-requested topics.

Director Creutz moved to approve the course selection guide; the motion passed with nine directors voting in favor and none opposed. Committee chairs said the digital guide includes graduation information and other navigation aids, and they asked staff to add the alternative-education information to the guide in April.
