Board briefed on $15,000 college-and-career readiness grant; paperwork pending

Madison County School District staff informed the school board on Feb. 23 that the district has been offered — and has submitted paperwork for — a $15,000 Florida Rural College and Career Readiness grant through a consortium.
"We were offered an opportunity ... to receive, like, $15,000 to use towards college and career readiness," presenter Miss Cochran said, explaining the grant would fund activities such as FAFSA nights at the high school, field trips to nearby technical and community colleges (Big Bend Tech, River Oak and North Florida College), and incentives to encourage parental participation.
Cochran said the award would be distributed in increments that she described on the record; she also said the district had not yet received full approval and that all paperwork was submitted. Board member Miss Gibson asked which students would be targeted; Cochran replied the grant would focus on juniors and seniors this year so seniors leaving the district could take advantage of the programming, with a shift toward juniors in the following year.
The presenter mentioned possible reimbursements tied to PERT testing and incentives for parent attendance but said details would be worked out as the grant is finalized. No formal motion was required or taken; the board was notified and staff said they will follow up if final approval is received.
