Clover School District highlights community partnerships, staff and student achievements at monthly meeting

At its monthly business meeting Monday night, the Clover School District Board of Trustees recognized community partners, staff and students for a range of contributions, awarding the South Carolina School Boards Association’s Champion for Public Education honor to the Greater Things Ministry and noting several donations, employee awards and athletic and academic recognitions.

The district presented the Champion for Public Education award through SCSBA president Charles Govan, who said the partnership between the district and the Greater Things Ministry “in collaboration with Clovis School District, this is a partnership which displays your dedication and commitment to the success of public school children.” Govan described the ministry’s work arranging bus-shelter protection from rain, hosting school-supply distributions and providing shoes and other items for students.

Pastor Ray Scott of the Greater Things Ministry accepted the recognition and spoke about the ministry’s motivation. “Jesus Christ and his shed blood changed my life, and that's why I do what I do,” Pastor Scott said.

Local business owners identified as Drs. Katrina, Ashley and Patricia Scott (representing Project Clear and affiliated companies) presented surprise grants to three teachers chosen by district staff to fund classroom projects. Dr. Katrina Scott, who led the presentation, said she and her husband had moved to Clover five years ago and that they wanted to “fill in the gap” for teachers who could not secure other funding. “I wasn't expecting to say anything. I was just gonna drop off the check and leave,” she said.

The board also recognized student and staff achievements: two Clover students who won first place at a regional abacus competition; Clover Middle School and Clover High School athletic fields named field-of-the-year by the South Carolina Sports Field Managers Association; Bailey Jackson, Clover High School athletic director, who received the Certified Master Athletic Administrator designation; multiple all-region athletes and all-state selections across volleyball, cross country, wrestling and cheer; and Oak Ridge Middle School teams who placed in the state FFA contests.

CSD announced employees of the month for December and January from schools across the district and held a brief school-board recognition observance as part of the district’s participation in statewide Board Recognition Month. The teacher forum and York County Education Association presented appreciation baskets to board members on behalf of teachers.

Superintendent Dr. Quinn opened the recognitions segment and noted the unusually large number of items on the agenda. The meeting’s recognitions section ran from the start of the awards presentations through the teacher- and board-recognition activities.

Less-central items included an appearance by SCSBA region director Scott Childers and multiple short thank-you remarks by school and program leaders. No formal votes or policy actions were taken during the recognitions segment.
