The Anchor Bay School District Board began its Jan. 22 organizational meeting by administering the oath of office to newly elected trustees, including Brian Powers and Jamie Sunnyburger, who each swore to support the U.S. and state constitutions and to discharge the duties of trustee for the Anchor Bay School District.
Trustees nominated Mr. Richards to serve as chairperson pro tem to conduct the election of board officers; the board voted to appoint Richards to that role. The board then considered a motion to keep all officer positions the same as the prior year and to vote as a slate. That motion—made by Mr. Vannatili and supported by Ms. Knox—carried on a roll-call vote.
The board also established the regular 2025 meeting calendar and set regular meetings on Wednesdays beginning at 7 p.m., with some designated superintendent-evaluation times that will occur earlier in the evening per state law. Trustees noted there is currently no July meeting scheduled but left the possibility open if an operational need arises. The board reiterated a 75 percent attendance expectation for board and committee meetings; attendance below that threshold may affect trustees’ stipend eligibility and the board records the meeting stipend amount as $45 per meeting.
Why it matters: The organizational steps set leadership, committee assignments and the calendar for the coming year; the attendance expectation is tied to trustee compensation.
What’s next: The superintendent will provide committee assignments to trustees and the board will operate under the approved calendar; the next organizational meeting is scheduled for Jan. 28, 2026.
