The Hubbard County Board approved acting as fiscal sponsor for the Forest Riders ATV Club so the volunteer club can apply for trail funding and grants that require a local government sponsor.
County staff said the Forest Riders maintain trails in the Park Rapids region and neighboring townships and that the request is similar to prior sponsorships for snowmobile groups; there is minimal direct cost to the county because the county acts as the fiscal agent for grant receipt and administration.
Commissioners approved the sponsorship on voice vote. Staff also provided a brief update on a planned snowmobile race on Fishhook Lake, reporting that a recent break-through at an access point required attention but colder weather has improved the ice and organizers expect the event to proceed.
Staff said the county will continue to support trail management work and coordinate with townships and volunteers on maintenance and grant administration.
