The Hubbard County Board of Commissioners appointed John Olsen to serve as county attorney to complete the term ending Dec. 31, 2026, and administered his oath of office.

The board also held its organizational business, electing Commissioner Steve as board chair and Commissioner Dave K. as vice chair. Commissioners approved updated bylaws for 2025, adopted the board meeting schedule for the year and confirmed the county’s legal newspaper selection. The board discussed and approved a standing committee list for 2025 and made several adjustments to committee memberships and AMC (Association of Minnesota Counties) designations.

The board reviewed the standing committees and agreed to consolidate labor negotiation duties into the personnel committee in off years, noting 2025 is a negotiating year for some contracts. Commissioners discussed committee assignments to ensure coverage of general government, personnel, public safety and transportation, and to identify county representatives for AMC committees. They directed staff to update contact information and redlined changes in the bylaws.

The motions to appoint Olsen, elect officers, adopt the bylaws, approve the 2025 meeting schedule and accept the committee list passed by voice vote.

Board members said committee assignments may be adjusted during the year as chair and vice chair roles change and as needs arise; several commissioners noted flexibility for future swaps. The board also discussed the timeline for finalizing AMC appointment lists and agreed to provide those delegations as required.

Less-urgent housekeeping items approved included the county’s legal newspaper designation and affirmation of the board calendar for 2025.
