NIET and state education staff conducted on-site evaluation-tool support at Terrebonne schools

Dr. Monica Bro (as part of district staff) reported that the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET), contracted by the Louisiana Department of Education, provided on-site support visits to help implement the state's revised teacher and administrator evaluation system.
Dr. Bro described sessions in which an NIET coach and state personnel observed classrooms, practiced scripting lessons and used the new observation tool to discuss possible scores and post-observation plans. The district hosted three on-site visits in January—at Acadian, Home Junior High and Elander—with principals and assistant principals participating.
"Everyone who attended did reflect on how beneficial it was for them to attend these sessions," Dr. Bro said. One observed teacher participated in a live post-observation conference that was used as a training demonstration.
The presentations were informational. Committee members offered no additional direction and expressed appreciation for the training opportunity.
