Terrebonne Parish students place in regional, state honor bands; percussion show set for March 15 in Thibodaux

Sandra LaRose, music-department representative for Terrebonne Parish schools, updated the committee on student participation in regional and state honor ensembles and upcoming public performances. "I'm not gonna read that whole thing to you," LaRose said, summarizing a written handout and highlighting the indoor percussion show, Voices of the Deep, scheduled to perform March 15 at the Thibodaux Civic Center.
LaRose told the committee that 29 students made the Louisiana State District 7 senior-high honor band, 12 made the junior-high band and 16 made the all-youth ensemble. She reported larger parish-wide totals for the Terrebonne Parish Honor Band: 74 students in the senior-high division, 74 in the junior-high division and 88 in the all-youth division. LaRose also said 15 band students and seven choir students were selected for the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) honor ensembles this year.
LaRose described community performances by student ensembles, including tuba and baritone players invited to a Bayou Blue Recreation Center Tuba Christmas and choir visits to nursing homes and medical centers. She noted a Parish Honor Band concert originally scheduled for Jan. 25 was postponed because rehearsals were canceled and that a new date will be announced once available.
Committee members asked to recognize students who were nominated or selected in community awards; members agreed it would be appropriate to do a short recognition on a future agenda.
