Board approves 2025 strategic plan; superintendent to return with implementation objectives

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board voted Jan. 9 to approve a draft 2025 strategic plan developed through board workshops, retreats and community input.
Superintendent Cole described the plan as the product of multiple meetings with board members and members of the public. Board members commended the plan’s clarity and said it was easier to navigate than previous versions. Board Member Russ moved that the superintendent return to the board no later than May with a plan for implementing the strategic plan including measurable objectives; the motion was seconded and carried along with approval of the plan.
Dr. Finney and others had urged the board to preserve careful measurement and not rush the process; board members said metrics remain and the superintendent is data driven. A board workshop to further discuss implementation timing and the budget was noted as forthcoming.
The motion approved the plan as a draft and added a directive for the superintendent to provide specific implementation objectives and metrics by the suggested date.
