The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board voted Jan. 9 to renew a contract with the City of Baton Rouge in the amount of $134,110 to allow the district’s Department of Adult and Continuing Education to provide adult education classes and HiSET testing for inmates at the East Baton Rouge Parish prison from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025.
One public commenter thanked the adult education department for its work with incarcerated learners and praised the program’s impact. Board members referenced a recent adult education graduation and asked the district to continue supporting inmate education as part of broader rehabilitation efforts.
The motion to renew the contract was moved and seconded, and the secretary announced the motion carried.
