Dorchester 02 expects referendum and capital projects to move forward as contracts finalize

Staff reported Jan. 13 that contracts for several referendum and capital projects are nearing completion and that some projects should be ready to start site work once Guaranteed Maximum Prices (GMPs) and notices to proceed are issued.
District staff told the Facilities Committee that contracts for two contractors (named in the meeting as Sandhuel and Jay Davis) were expected to be finalized within days, triggering purchase orders and notices to proceed. Staff said a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) will be presented to the committee on the Thursday following the meeting, and that fencing, stormwater relocation and other site preparations would begin after notice to proceed is issued.
Staff listed several referendum projects that will be starting or continuing in the next year, including classroom additions and gym renovations at multiple schools. Examples discussed included classroom additions at Sandhuel, Oak Brook and Summerville, the Summerville gymnasium project, and internal work such as asbestos abatement, flooring replacement and painting at Banksville and other sites. Staff said some projects will be celebrated publicly with groundbreakings and signage identifying the work as referendum-funded.
On Oak Brook specifically, staff said permitting was nearly complete and that a GMP would be submitted at the next contractor meeting. For several projects staff said work will begin once contractors present GMPs and the district issues notices to proceed.
No formal vote was taken; staff described contract finalization and GMP submittals as routine procurement steps and asked the committee to coordinate public-facing groundbreaking events when projects reach the construction stage.
