Dorchester 02 staff say Ponds property on track for March site work

Dr. Robbins (role not specified) told the Dorchester 02 Facilities Committee on Jan. 13 that the district has been holding frequent coordination meetings with the developer and engineers and is aiming to begin site work at the Ponds property in March (exact day not specified).

The update noted that district staff have submitted an early site package and have regular conversations with the developer (referred to in the meeting as Kolter), Thompson Hutton (the civil engineering firm working with the developer), and the contractor Fit Construction. Dr. Robbins said staff are “in a good position” to start turning dirt in March, while acknowledging the schedule is aggressive and contingent on final permits and mobilization.

Staff reported progress on permitting steps the district must complete, including a state permit for ground disturbance and coordination with state coastal and permitting offices. A facilities staff member said the district received several permits and that the state agency for coastal permitting responded quickly when staff raised issues on a related Oak Brook matter.

County-level support was also reported: staff said they have spoken with David Shenas, identified in the meeting as the new chair of the county council, who has indicated the council wants the project to meet the proposed timeline and will assist where possible.

District staff said the contractor has discussed mobilizing heavy equipment as paperwork and permitting move forward. No formal board action or vote on the Ponds schedule was recorded during the meeting; staff characterized the update as progress reporting and asked the committee to continue monitoring permitting and contractor readiness.

The committee did not set a binding start date at the meeting and said staff will return with further updates as permits, mobilization and any remaining approvals are finalized.
