Commissioners approve letter requesting $6.76 million from ODRC to finish Hocking Correctional Facility project

The proposed letter, read into the record by a commissioner, requests $6,755,413 "to complete this project substantially and have the building that we are permitted to occupy and that it is functional for its intended purpose as a female jail and treatment center." The letter also asks that Heather Brink of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission continue administering the project to maintain continuity and ensure progress as the facility nears completion.
The board moved to approve and sign the letter to ODRC. A roll call was requested; the meeting record shows affirmative votes and the motion carried.
Why it matters: the requested funds would complete construction and fiscal close-out so the county may occupy and operate the facility as a female jail and treatment center. The commission noted the county lacks the capacity to assume full fiscal management of a project of this scale and therefore asked that OFCC continue administration.
Commissioners instructed staff to sign and send the request immediately so the county can secure the additional funds from ODRC.
