Organizers said a tasting tour of downtown El Segundo brought employees of defense contractor Raytheon to Richmond Street to sample local restaurants and attractions.
"Today, we are doing a tasting tour of downtown El Segundo, with 1 of our big big corporate partners and a big wonderful part of our community, Raytheon," Speaker 1, Commenter, said. "So we're thrilled to have them downtown. The chamber's thrilled that the city asked us to partner with them on these events. It's amazing how many times people do not come west of PCH. They come to work, get all settled in because as you know, we have this huge population during the day who come here to work."
The event was described as a collaboration between the city and the local chamber to show employees who work in the area the restaurants, music venues and longstanding businesses on Richmond Street. Speaker 2, Commenter, said the tour highlights both "consistent mainstay places" and new businesses, and mentioned "Creamy Boyse" as a recent ice cream opening. Speaker 2 also pointed to the music hall on Richmond and other "anchor" facilities.
Speaker 4, Commenter, described the city as "a great small town and the big town," and Speaker 3, Commenter, said the food and drinks on the tour "have been awesome." One organizer noted that in a group of about 13 or 14 attendees, only one person had previously visited downtown, signaling organizers' goal to reach daytime workers who do not typically patronize businesses west of Pacific Coast Highway.
Speakers invited other corporations to bring employees to downtown El Segundo for similar tours. "I just wanna invite everyone down to downtown El Segundo, and we'd love to do this with other corporations," Speaker 1, Commenter, said. "Bring your employees down. Let them see the charm and the savory food and the great drinks and all we have to offer here."
