Cleveland Heights City Council approved several measures on first reading Monday, including a grant acceptance for senior transportation services, a planning commission appointment and a short contract extension for grant writing.
On first reading, council passed Resolution 017‑2025 authorizing the mayor to accept a grant from the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging to fund transportation services through the city’s office on aging. The motion carried and was recorded as passed on the first reading.
Council also approved Resolution 018‑2025 appointing Robert N. Brown to the City Planning Commission to fill a vacancy through Dec. 31, 2027, and Resolution 019‑2025 authorizing a two‑month extension of an agreement with Millennium Strategies LLC for continued grant‑writing services.
Ordinance 020‑2025, authorizing the presentation of entertainment programs in Caine Park for 2025, passed on first reading. An ordinance authorizing a real estate purchase agreement for approximately 1.049 acres on Lancashire Road (Ordinance 021‑2025) was introduced but was not voted on at Monday’s meeting. Council also introduced Ordinance 022‑2025, authorizing application for Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council 2025 energized community grants; that measure remained at first reading.
Council president and staff reported committee schedules: the finance committee will meet Thursday, Feb. 6, to continue budget work and requested outstanding materials (revised 2025 budget book, 2024 carryover capital projects, audit status and other financial particulars). The municipal services and environmental sustainability committee will meet Feb. 20 at 5 p.m., and the planning and development committee scheduled a meeting with Taylor Road businesses.
No final appropriations or multi‑year commitments were approved at Monday’s meeting; several items were advanced on emergency first reading to allow timely administrative action or further review.
